Workout fads come and go, but virtually no other exercise program is as enduring as yoga.  Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It's a comprehensive mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing, meditation and relaxation. It's been around for more than 5,000 years.

Regular yoga practice increases brain GABA levels, yoga improves mood and anxiety more than other exercises, such as walking.  Scientific research of Yoga practitioners have shown musculoskeletal and mental health improvements.  Yoga includes symptoms of asthma in asthmatics. Studies have continuously shown that the three main focuses of Hatha yoga (exercise, breathing, and meditation) is benificial to overall health of mind and body. The effects of yoga on heart disease suggest that yoga may reduce high blood pressure, improve symptoms of heart failure, enhance cardiac rehabilitation, and lower cardiovascular risk.

Don't worry, I get that you...

• Might be intimidated or nervous by the idea of doing yoga.  • Think yoga is a series of chants and sighs and oms.  • Believe that having a spiritual experience while doing yoga is mandatory.  • May think that yoga is just stretching and not “real” exercise.  • We hear you! We are the yogis without the “om” (sometimes). We're here to make you feel totally comfortable with a yoga practice.

Here's a little secret...most of my students started doing yoga with me for the first time - I love newcomers!

Yoga is powerful, the postures get you connected to your core, the breathing helps you relax and breathe better overall! Yoga also has the concentrated ability to strengthen your bones and tone your muscles.

In life, total health includes an awareness of our physical and mental selves. In yoga, by using our breath we learn to connect our minds to our bodies. As we get more connected (not just in class, but overall), we end up making healthier lifestyle choices which can lead to overall happiness.

Let's face it, the way we live should not be exclusivelyt about our diet and looks. By performing yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breathing), and meditation (relaxation), we relieve the stress of our everyday lives.  Yoga creates a space in our heads to listen.  And it makes sense! Think about it: we will care for our bodies because we now know what it really wants. We will enjoy ourselves more because we’re always aware of how we feel. We will choose places, situations and things which will enhance these good feelings within ourselves. Are you with me?
